Bantwal, Apr 12: Three persons including a four-year-old girl lost their lives after they were fatally struck by lightning at Jakribettu village in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as Jayamma (30), Hanumakka (28) and Shashikala (4). All of them hailed from Hiriyuru taluk in Tumakuru district.
A 2-year-old-girl, who was severely injured in the lighting strike, was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The women and their children were part of migrant workers who had come to work in an ongoing drinking water project in Bantwal.
The tragedy occurred when the women were washing clothes at Netravati river while the children were sitting on a rock.
The intensity of lighting strike was such that the two women drown in the water and died while the two children suffered severe injuries. One among the child breathed her last while being taken to a hospital.
As the news began to spread, hundreds of people rushed to the spot along with the police in spite of the fear of recurrence of lightning strikes. Bodies were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.
