Kasargod, Feb 1: One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Manzoor Ali, 42, a gold merchant from here, whose body was found inside an unused well at Bayar locality in Paivalige village near Manjeshwar on January 25.

The police have managed to establish the identity of Salam's accomplice, Ashraf, a resident of Muligudde locality near Uppala, Mr. Simon told a press conference here on Tuesday.
The daylight murder was committed after the duo lured Manzoor Ali in the guise of exchanging 25 sovereigns old gold ornaments and dumped his body in a nearby well, Mr. Simon said.
The arrest of Abdul Salam followed tracing of the phone call made by the duo informing him about their plans to exchange the gold ornaments and asking him to travel to Uppala by bus to carry out the deal, he said.
CCTV footage obtained from a nearby house also helped crime investigators. The culprits could not steal 160 pieces of Rs. 2,000 currency notes worthy Rs. 3.20 lakh concealed in the inner pocket of the Manzoor Ali and sped away with Rs. 2 lakh cash kept in his bag, he said.
The duo fled the spot after locals hearing the commotion informed the Manjeshwar police station. Kasaragod Dy.SP, M.V. Sukumaran, Kumbla CI, V.V. Manoj and Manjeshwar SI, K. Pramod formed part of the investigating team.
