
Mangaluru, Feb 11: “Electricity is the oxygen of this century. To eradicate poverty and for the development of nation, electricity is very essential,” said R.K Singh, Head of Media relations & Public awareness section, Bhabha Atomic Research Center(BARC), Mumbai.
He was inaugurating the outreach program organized under the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Department of Atomic Energy, BARC, Mumbai, at the campus of Bearys Institute of Technology, Mangalore on Wednesday.
Nuclear technologies are used in various fields like cancer treatment, power generation, food processing etc, he added.
Prof. Balakrishna, Department of Physics, Mangalore university was the chief guest. On his address, he said “Young minds should be involved in the development of the country and Without power we are powerless”.
Guest of honour, Prof Sheshadri , Ex scientist, IGCAR Kalpakam, gave a brief history and lifestyle of Homi J.Bhabha, the founder of BARC.
Dr Palakshappa, presided the function and said “You are as young as your dreams”.
The coordinator, Dr.M.A Baig welcomed the gathering, and Dr.Shivaprakash concluded the event by rendering vote of thanks.
Former function was followed by a seminar & Exhibition. Seminar was on methods and materials of Nuclear fusion and Nuclear Fission. Exhibition witnessed more than 2000 students from in and around Mangalore schools and colleges.
