Bengaluru: Medical seat aspirant girl cheated of Rs 10.5 lakh

Bengaluru, Sept 3: A businessman has lost Rs 11 lakh to fraudsters who promised a medical seat for his daughter in a Bengaluru college. Mahadevapura police have registered a case in this regard.

According to the police sources, Ishika Aggarwal, daughter of Ajay Aggarwal from New Delhi, had attended the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Three months ago, a man named Mohan contacted Ajay, saying his daughter can get a medical seat in one of the reputed colleges in Bengaluru. The caller sought Rs 25 lakh and agreed to get it done for Rs 15 lakh after negotiations.

On August 22, as per Mohan’s direction, Ajay had transferred Rs 50,000 and Mohan told him to come to Bengaluru on Wednesday with the remaining amount. Ajay, with his daughter and wife, came to the city on Wednesday and met Mohan at a hotel. Ajay paid about Rs 10 lakh cash and Mohan gave a security cheque, along with a letter of seat confirmation. He told them to come to the said medical college at 1am.

However, when Ajay turned up and tried to contact Mohan, his mobile phone was switched off. Ajay approached police and filed a complaint. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Post-Sabarimala pilgrimage drinking party turns fatal in Udupi; youth killed in midnight brawl

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
