Bike rams into tipper in overtake bid; MBBS student riding pillion dies

Mangaluru, Dec 8: A medical student met his untimely death and his friend sustained critical injuries when the motorbike they were riding crashed into a tipper in an overtake bid at Ullal on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Saravanan U (25), a second year MBBS student of Yenepoya Medical College in the city. He was a resident of Tamil Nadu.

According to local sources, the over-confident Pulsar rider tried to overtake a speeding tipper from the wrong side. However, amidst the competition the motorbike hit the tipper and came under the wheels of heavy vehicle.

Saravanan, who was riding pillion, was thrown on the road and crushed to death under the wheels of tipper. His body was shifted to a local hospital for postmortem.

The motorbike rider also sustained critical injuries in the accident and was admitted to a private hospital.

The accident which occurred at Madani Nagar in Ullal town led to major traffic jam at least for half an hour.

Heading to Karavali Utsava? Check traffic changes and parking rules in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
