Mangalore, Apr 8: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat said that the manifestos of the BJP and Congress at the Centre were the same on fundamental issues, and the government in power and the main parliamentary opposition party had formed an unholy alliance which was a tragedy in Indian politics.

Addressing the gathering at a public meeting organised by district unit of CPI(M) at Town Hall in the city on Tuesday, she said that the future of the country depended critically upon the ouster of UPA government from power and the defeat of RSS, BJP and its candidate Narendra Modi. “They had the most communal attack in Muzaffarnagar in UP where there was no history of communal riots. Similar to what happened in Uttar Pradesh, people have seen the violent activities of the RSS,BJP members acting like goons in Mangalore. While they attacked a local councillor, the shameless Congress could not even defend their party members,” she criticised.

She said that there was no Modi wave in the country, which is why the BJP wanted to induct criminals and corrupt persons in the party such as Pramod Muthalik, B S Yeddyurappa.

Calling Amit Shah as the ambassador ' of Modi, she said that Modi had sent him to Uttar Pradesh as the BJP poll manager for the state for the forthcoming general elections. “With single-point agenda propagated by Modi, he was sent to the peaceful areas of the state to cause more riots. The agenda of BJP is to cause hatred. We have to defeat such communal forces like BJP, since the Congress is incapable of protecting people. People know that the expiry date of the Congress has arrived in these elections. At the same time, there is a bigger fight to defeat the BJP with the support of JD(U) and regional secular parties,” she said, appealing to the people to make the right choice by rejecting the Congress and defeating the BJP.

BJP manifesto a blueprint for Hindutva agenda '

Speaking to mediapersons about the BJP manifesto and its communal agenda, she said that the BJP manifesto is a blueprint to take the Hindutva agenda forward. Under A B Vajpayee 's rule, there was a commitment that the Ram Mandir issue, Article 370 (special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir) and uniform civil code which are divisive issues will be put on the back burner. Now Mr Modi has brought this agenda to the fore again, and has given a clear message that the Hindutva mantra remains central to the BJP manifesto, she said.

Further, she said that corporate seva and RSS agenda were the two pillars of BJP manifesto. The BJP has always tried to use divisive and communal propaganda to gain votes and are least worried about the nation 's interests. That is their prime agenda and the RSS is openly working according to that agenda, she said.

She charged Modi for being directly responsible for creating the Hindutva agenda in Uttar Pradesh, which was why he was contesting from Varanasi. This is a plan to recreate an environment of division which the BJP cynically thinks will get them votes, she said.

“The CPI(M), which has laid down a broad framework based on secularism, protecting the federal nature of the Indian polity, to promote pro-people policies and to ensure democracy. We are confident that in large parts of India, the Left, along with its friends, is going to be a determining factor in the formation of the government in the post-poll scenario,” she said, adding that the Left front would play a critical role in the formation of a government.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
