Bengaluru, Dec 21: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has alleged that the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party are spreading lies.

Earlier, speaking to presspersons at the airport, he rejected the allegations of the BJP that his government was bankrupt. The Chief Minister maintained that the loans taken during his term was less than 25 per cent of the Gross State Domestic Product. Mr. Siddaramaiah, who met a delegation of the Belagavi District Kannada Organisations Action Committee, said he would speak to his Maharashtra counterpart and try to convince him that there was no need for an agitation on the dispute as the matter was before the Supreme Court.
He said that the government was concerned about the issue and was committed to protecting the territories and interests of Kannadigas in the boundary areas.
The Chief Minister said that he would meet the Goa Chief Minister to explore the possibilities of an amicable solution to the Mahadayi water dispute soon. He appealed to the farmers in Nargund and other parts of north Karnataka to withdraw their struggle.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who was present, said that crime cases were on the rise in Belagavi city. He said that he would review the performance of the Police Commissionerate in the city on January 4.
