Addressing a campaign meeting in Belagavi, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that though BJP national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa had been claiming that the Centre had provided Rs.1,540 crore to Karnataka to tackle drought, the amount had not been released yet. The State government had spent Rs.600 crore so far on relief work in the affected areas.

Earlier, speaking to presspersons at the airport, he rejected the allegations of the BJP that his government was bankrupt. The Chief Minister maintained that the loans taken during his term was less than 25 per cent of the Gross State Domestic Product. Mr. Siddaramaiah, who met a delegation of the Belagavi District Kannada Organisations Action Committee, said he would speak to his Maharashtra counterpart and try to convince him that there was no need for an agitation on the dispute as the matter was before the Supreme Court.

He said that the government was concerned about the issue and was committed to protecting the territories and interests of Kannadigas in the boundary areas.

The Chief Minister said that he would meet the Goa Chief Minister to explore the possibilities of an amicable solution to the Mahadayi water dispute soon. He appealed to the farmers in Nargund and other parts of north Karnataka to withdraw their struggle.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who was present, said that crime cases were on the rise in Belagavi city. He said that he would review the performance of the Police Commissionerate in the city on January 4.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
