Mangalore, Jul 20: The Mahila Morcha of Bharatiya Janata Party has sought Karnataka governor's intervention to tackle increased crime against women in coastal Karnataka and other parts of the state.
The Mangalore North and Mangalore South constituency committees of BJP Mahila Morcha on Saturday forwarded a memorandum to governor K Rosaiah through Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim demanding immediate action against accused in all crimes against women in the state. Mahila Morcha leaders including Pooja G Pai, Kathyayani Seetharam, Roopa D Bangera and Pushpalatha Gatti were present in the delegation.
"Instances of crime against women and children have brought disgrace to Karnataka, which is considered as a state of enlightened people. Though many cases of sexual harassment have been brought to light, several instances still remain hidden," stated Pooja G Pai and Kathyayani Seetharam, presidents of two Mahila Morcha units in the memorandum.
"Instances of atrocities on women continue in the state unabatedly. However, the state government has failed utterly in taking action against the miscreants. The issue has created apprehension in minds of women and children in the state. The government, which is in dark, should act upon to protect women and children," the leaders urged.
The women BJP wing also demanded that separate women's police stations should be set up to deal with crimes against women. Similarly, they urged, special courts should be set up to trial cases related to crime against women.
"Neither police nor politicians should ensure protection to criminals, who are involved in crime against women, and they should be punished suitably," the leaders demanded.
