Belagavi, Dec 18: The Opposition BJP members in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly sought change of rules for the effective spending of MLAs annual grant released by the State government.

Raising the issue, during question hour, Haladi Srinivasa Shetty (BJP) said that stringent rules framed for the utilization of the funds and leading to lapse of the funds.
He also sought the state government to enhance the annual grants earmarked from present Rs 2 crore to 5 crore to take up more works.
In his reply Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that over Rs 960 crore remain unspent in the MLAs grant for the year 2017-18. Additional Rs 600 crore also been released for 2018-19 and appealed the members to make use of it for development of their respective constituencies, he added.
