Bengaluru, Oct 17: Karnataka deputy chief minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday said the JDS-Congress coalition government would show its strength by winning the upcoming bypolls and claimed that the BJP was set to "lose its face."

Battle lines have been drawn for the by-elections taking place on November 3 for three Lok Sabha constituencies of Mandya, Shivamogga and Ballari and two assembly constituencies of Ramanagara and Jamakhandi.

"There is no personal ego involved and everybody is working together. Our coalition government will gain more strength by winning in all the five places. BJP is set to lose its face," Parameshwara told reporters.

Flagging off buses to Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur to mark the anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, architect of the Indian constitution, embracing Buddhism along with his followers, the deputy chief minister said Congress and JD(S) have unanimously decided the candidates for the elections.

The state government has arranged 23 Airavat Volvo buses from Karnataka to Nagpur to take part in the celebrations. Of these, 16 vehicles were flagged off from Bengaluru.

It was at the Deekshabhoomi that Ambedkar had led his followers to embrace Buddhism in 1956.

The deputy chief minister lauded JD(S) for its support in Ballari and Jamakhandi where Congress candidates were fighting against the BJP.

Parameshwara took a dig at BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa and MP Shobha Karandlaje, saying their analysis on the unity of coalition partners was not required.

The two coalition partners have arrived at a consensus that JD(S) would field its candidates at Shivamogga, Mandya and Ramanagara while Congress from Ballari and Jamakhandi.

The two parties have also agreed on helping each other byappointing election-in-charge in each of the five constituencies where bypolls are taking place.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
