Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the district unit had a target of inducting 4 lakh new members into the party by the end of the membership campaign. The district unit has identified over a thousand party members to actively engage in door-to-door campaigning for the membership campaign which began on November 1. Conventions of active party members will be held in all eight assembly constituencies of the district within the arrival of the party national president in the district, he said.

He said that the conventions would be held in Sullia and Mangaluru constituencies on January 15, Mangaluru North, Mangaluru South and Moodbidri constituencies on January 18, Belthangady constituency on January 21 and Puttur constituency on January 22.

The party has decided on a target of inducting 50,000 new members in each assembly constituency by the end of February. Active party members will engage in door-to-door campaigning on January 10 and 11 and also on January 24 and 25, in an effort to reach out to as many citizens as possible, he added.

Reacting on the verbal battle between Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and former union minister Janardhan Poojary, Mr Nayak said that criticising the Speaker and making an issue out of it was shameful. Janardhan Poojary should clarify which of the Rules of Procedure is being violated by the Speaker when he pointed out shortcomings of the state government, he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
