Mangalore, Oct 1: This guy is no less than a'mini-genius' with a sharp eye and exceptional memory skills. With the ability to memorize and recall registration numbers of over 3,000 vehicles, this young lad is an example that one does not need to be extraordinary to have a unique talent.

hazrat

20-year-old Mohammed Hazrat, is the only son of Hussain and Fathima from Pilar-Thokkottu. This resident of Daranda Bagilu at Pilaru near Thokkottu, is a living directory of vehicle registration numbers and mobile numbers.

Mohammed can easily memorize mobile numbers, and so far he can recall over 100 mobile numbers of his known associates.

Try as much as he could, Mohammed could not complete his high school, after which he gave up his studies and began to help his father in running a fruit stall. During this while, he began to cultivate the habit of memorising the registration numbers written on the number plates of passing vehicles.

The habit gradually grew into a passion, after friends began testing him to recall registration numbers of buses and other passing vehicles on the roads.

Hazrat has remarkably memorised the registration numbers of vehicles belonging to regular city buses, ministers and other known representatives and recalls when asked for. Such is the talent of Mohammed who has no educational qualification other than his high schooling.

This unique skill of Mohammed's has helped him in dire times. The day when his father's two-wheeler was hit by another bike and sped away promising financial help, Mohammed was present at the scene and memorised the bike number. After the rider of the bike became difficult to be traced, Mohammed's father was able to lodge a complaint based on the registration number memorised by his son.

Even in another instance of hit-and-run case by a city bus, Mohammed was able to identify the bus after having memorised it at the spot.

Inspite of his unique talent, however, not much has been publicised about Mohammed and his skill.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
