Shivamogga, May 12: K.S. Eshwarappa, Shivamogga MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister, has expressed confidence that B.S. Yeddyurappa, president of BJP State unit, will become Chief Minister after the announcement of the result of Lok Sabha election.

“The major chunk of the leaders of Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress were unhappy over the seat sharing agreement for the Lok Sabha election. Owing to the discontentment among its leaders and cadres, both the parties would lose key constituencies in Karnataka. The squabbles between the leaders of the two parties would enhance after the declaration of the Lok Sabha poll results, leading to fall of the coalition government,” he said at a press conference in the city on Saturday.

For selfish ends

Referring to the statements issued by some of the Congress MLAs on Siddaramaiah, chairman of JD(S)-Congress coordination committee, becoming Chief Minister, he said that the statements were issued at the behest of Mr. Siddaramaiah. He alleged that to fulfil his “selfish ends” Mr. Siddaramaiah was trying to de-stabilise the coalition government through a section of Congress MLAs who are his followers.

“Mr. Siddaramaiah’s dream of becoming the Chief Minister again will remain unfulfilled.”

Confident

Exuding confidence of BJP’s victory in the byelection for Kundagol and Chincholi Assembly seats, he said that the BJP’s tally of 104 seats in the State Assembly would soon enhance to 106.

“The disgruntled MLAs in Congress will rebel against the party after Lok Sabha election and pull down the coalition government in the State after which the BJP will come to power,” he said.

Mr. Eshwarappa said that the Congress party in Karnataka was mired in factional feud as the differences between the followers of G. Parameshwara, Deputy Chief Minister and Mr. Siddaramaiah have widened. The administration machinery in the State has become paralysed owing to the strife between the Congress leaders, he alleged.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
