Sullia, Jun 1: B S Shareif, local businessman, advocate and social worker, reportedly committed suicide at his residence at Arambur in Sullia in the early hours of Friday.
According to sources, he hanged himself at around 3:30 a.m. when Muslims wake up for pre-dawn meal or suhoor in the holy month of Ramadan.
52-year-old Sharief was a well-known person in the town. He was the president of Sullia City Rotary Club. He was running professional courier service. He also served as a state level trainer for Jaycees, convenor of Sullia Greenway School, and vice president of a mosque at Mogarpane.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons and a large number of relatives and friends.
The exact reason for the alleged suicide is not known. However, it is gathered that financial crisis drove him to the extreme step. As the news of death began to spread, hundreds of people thronged his house.
