Mangalore, Apr 9: Former union minister C M Ibrahim said that Karnataka stood second in the scale of industrial development in the state, leaving Gujarat far behind, proving that the Gujarat model of development ' was a sham.

Addressing the local residents at an election campaign meeting for Congress candidate B Janardhan Poojary at Kasaba Bengre here on Wednesday, he said that the original BJP party had been wiped clean, and only the hybrid party remained. Senior BJP leaders such as Murali Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh and L K Advani who have worked with sincerity have been downgraded in the party. Once upon a time, they chanted the mantra of Ram mandir ', and now it has turned into Har Har Modi ', he mocked the BJP.

Lashing out at Modi for attempting to bring in uniform civil code in the country, he said that about 45 percent of children and young girls in Gujarat were malnourished in Gujarat. Industries have closed down and farmers have committed suicide. The only development of Modi in Gujarat is his attempts to divide the society into fragments and create fear in the minds of people, he said.

Criticising BJP for its failure and divisive tactics, he said that the BJP had forgotten the meaning of Indian culture and had now become a one-man show. Before, they did not beat up young boys and girls walking on streets. They are yet again enticing voters by playing the card of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. However, they have no willingness or desire to build one, he said, adding that BJP was standing on the support of a single man.

Poking fun at former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, he said that he did not achieve much in five years during his term as much as Siddaramaiah did in eleven months. After Siddamaraiah became the chief minister, as many as 95 assurances were fulfilled in 15 days, including distribution of rice to poor families at Re 1, waiving off loans of farmers and minorities and schemes to encourage children to attend school, he said.

He said that the people of the district had rejected BJP in the assembly elections, and that showed their unwillingness towards BJP.

Speaking on the occasion, KPCC secretary K P Nanjundi appealed to the people to vote for Congress candidate Janardhan Poojary to bring development and upliftment to all backward classes in the district. There is no doubt that if he wins in these elections, he will bring more developmental projects to the district, he said.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
