Mangaluru, Jul 20: A local court here has convicted two persons and acquitted six others in connection with the nine year old murder case of notorious criminal Santosh alias Candle Santhu.
Santhu, a resident of Balthile House, had gone to the Rajarajeshwari temple in Polali on the outskirts of the on February 18, 2009 when the murder took place.
His sister, Lathika, who was walking down the road, head a cry for help and saw a car parked at the bus stand. She rushed there and saw her brother lying in a pool of blood. Santhu died while he was being taken to the hospital.
Following complaint by Lathika, the police arrested 22 persons, including Madoor Yusuf, who was among the two murdered in the Manglauru District Prison in November 2015.
The police filed chargesheet under Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with lethal weapons) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Neerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani on Thursday convicted Iqbal (accused No.1) and Farooq (accused No. 6) for the offence under Section 302. The quantum of punishment will be announced on Friday.
The Judge acquitted Siddiq alias Munna, Asif alias Mohammed Asif, Sarfaraz, Mohammed Haris, Abdul Rehiman and Mansoor.
