Belagavi, Dec 17: The Union government has rejected Karnataka Government's proposal to include the people belonging to Kunabi tribe living in Uttara Kannada district, under the Scheduled Tribe list.

Replying to a question by Srikanth Ghotnekar (Cong) during question hour, Minister for Social Welfare Priyanka Kharge said that while sending that the Union Ministry of ST development have sought more clarifications to justify the claim.
He said that the previous Government had sent a recommendation to the Center in 2017 to include the Kunabi community, majority of them inhabitated in Uttara Kannada district and Center had sent its response in July this year.
“We are in the process of sending clarifications and more details on the subject to the Center” he added.
