Udupi, Jan 26: With the intention of giving interest-free loans to minority students having secured high ranks in CET examination, Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation has decided to extend the scheme for 5,000 students this year for professional studies. A sum of Rs 75 crore has been allotted for this purpose, said chairman of the Corporation S Y M Masood Faujdar.

He said that it had been decided to provide loans upto Rs 699.05 lakh to 2,498 beneficiaries in Udupi district for the year 2014-15. A total of Rs 880.46 lakh had been distributed as loans and allowances to 3,605 beneficiaries upto December 2014, he said, adding that a financial progress of 126 percent had been achieved.
He informed that a sum of Rs 250.69 lakh had been released for 1,326 beneficiaries from Muslim community, Rs 578.15 lakh for 2,111 beneficiaries from Christian community and Rs 15.62 lakh for 168 beneficiaries from the Jain community. For the year 2014-15, a sum of Rs 58,91,588 has been re-approved for loans, he said.
