Bengaluru, May 10: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have filed the charge sheet against Mohammed Nalapad, son of Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris and six others for attempt to murder (IPC section 307) and other offences in connection with the pub attack case on February 17.

Mohammed Nalapad and his six associates had assaulted Vidwath L, son of a businessman at Farzi Cafe in UB City. The gang later followed him to Mallya Hospital, where Vidwath was admitted, and again assaulted him and his brother. The gang warned them against registering a complaint. Nalapad and his associates were absconding soon after the complaint was filed and surrendered before the police on February 19.

The charge sheet, running into 600 pages, has been submitted to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.

N Satheesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police (crime) said that a speedy investigation was taken up in the case. “This is a serious case hence a speedy investigation was conducted and a charge sheet was filed last week before the court,” he said.

Sources in the CCB said that an attempt-to-murder charge was proven in the investigation and all the related documents to support this have been included in the charge sheet.

Since Vidwath was not in a condition to register a complaint, his friend Praveen Venkatachalaiah had filed the complaint on his behalf. Police had earlier booked Nalapad under the IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 and 144 (unlawful assembly), 146 and 147 (rioting), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

It was later that the police included IPC section 307 for attempt to murder. The police had recorded the statement of Vidwath and 60 witnesses, including his friends and people who were at Farzi Cafe, and its staff. The police also recorded the statements of staff and doctors at Mallya Hospital and collected CCTV footage at Farzi Cafe and Mallya Hospital.

A senior police officer said that Nalapad and his associates had also confessed during the enquiry that they attacked Vidwath. CCB officials have also stated in the chargesheet that efforts were on to trace the third accused Sri Krishna in the case.

He has been absconding since the incident.

Sri Krishna has not been not using a mobile phone and it is suspected that he has fled the country. Special teams have been formed to nab him, the police have stated in the chargesheet.

Mohammed Nalapad’s bail application was rejected by the City Civil and Sessions and high court.

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
