Clubhouse, forest, hut destroyed in separate arson attacks by miscreants

Udupi/Mangaluru, Jan 27: In three separate incidents, miscreants set fire to a forest, clubhouse and shack in three different places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts causing huge damage.

In Udyavara near Kunjathoor in Manjeshwar district, miscreants allegedly set fire to a clubhouse maintained by J M Friends on the side of Udyavara road. The miscreants are also alleged to have set fire to some timber wood that had been kept next to the clubhouse.

It is said that the clubhouse located on the upper level of a building was set on fire by pouring kerosene, and most items including carrom board and other things stored in the clubhouse were also burnt in the fire.

A police team from Manjeshwar has begun investigation in this regard.

Shack burnt in Sullia taluk

In another incident, a shack on the side of the road in Devarakana in Ivarnadu village in Sullia taluk was set fire by miscreants.

The shack owned by Chandravati was set fire when she was not in the shack. Although the fire service department was informed, by the time the personnel arrived, all the items inside the shack had been burnt.

Chandravati has lodged a complaint in this regard in Sullia police station. In this regard, police had questioned a person named Yennur Ramesh.

Forest set fire in Belapu

Miscreants are also said to have set fire to a forest in Belapu gram panchayat limits. It is said that the fire had been started earlier and had been raging for four days before the fire service personnel succeeded in extinguishing the fire before it could ravage further.

The locals have urged stringent punishment to the miscreants who sparked the fire.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged the graduating students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the management, faculty, and students.

The annual report was presented by the Principal, Mr. Abdul Majeed S, highlighting the institution’s academic progress, notable achievements, and extracurricular accomplishments during the academic year.

The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.
