Bengaluru, Oct 22: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have been contemplating fielding Sunil Bose, son of PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa, in the byelection to be held for the Nanjangud Assembly constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes.
The BJP had also dragged his name in the illegal sand mining issue and charged Mahadevappa with trying to protect his son and indirectly encouraging illegal sand mining in T Narsipur.
Mahadevappa is an MLA from T Narispur and he is also Mysuru district in-charge minister.
The sources said a section of leaders in the Congress is against fielding Mahadevappa's son in the bypoll. Bose is a political novice. He will be no match to Srinivas Prasad if the latter decides to contest the bypoll. The party has to find a senior leader to fight against Prasad, the leaders are learnt to have told the chief minister.
Names of former MP Shivanna, senior leaders Siddaraju, Bharatishankar, Govindaiah and Shivamallu are also making rounds as the probables from the Congress party.
The sources said Srinivas Prasad is likely to contest the bypoll as an independent candidate. He is learnt to have urged the BJP and the JD(S) to extend their support to him by not fielding their candidates. Both the BJP and the JD(S) have invited Prasad to join them.
