Shivamogga, Jul 14: State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step down owning moral responsibility for officers' suicides.
Referring to deputy superintendent of police M K Ganapathi's suicide, the former chief minister said the officer has named minister K J George and two police officers in a statement to a local TV channel before ending his life.
The Supreme Court has stated that the police should book a criminal case against those named in a dying declaration.
Though the statement can be considered evidence, the government is not filing a case.
“Is Siddaramaiah, who is an advocate, not aware of this?” he wanted to know.
Yeddyurappa said that the BJP will not call off its agitation in the Assembly till George resigns and added that a Madikeri bandh will be observed on Thursday.
He said the government would be responsible for any law and order problem on the bandh day.
