Bengaluru, Sep 11: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday urged Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to give preference to those who have studied Kannada as a language up to SSLC in the banking recruitment examination.

Siddaramaiah, in a letter, urged Jaitley to direct Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to bring in amendments to its rules for recruiting bank officers and office assistants. Besides, the examination should be conducted in all 22 languages included in Schedule VIII of the constitution of India. The present system of conducting the examination in Hindi and English is against the Constitution, he added.

“The central recruitment agency, IBPS, while framing rules for recruitment of office assistant and others to RRBs has diluted the clause on language proficiency...This change in rules under the system is proving to be utterly insensitive to the regional sentiments causing large scale resentment among youngsters of our state (sic),” the chief minister stated.

The chief minister also said strict rules should be framed for providing proper representation to people having good command of local language in various departments of the Centre.
