Advocate Naushad Khan gets 500 threat calls for Sabarimala petition

New Delhi: Jan 16: A lawyer who is leading a campaign for women’s entry into the Sabarimala temple claimed on Friday before the Supreme Court that he has received 500 threat calls, some from the United States, and sought permission to withdraw his plea.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and N V Ramana declined advocate Naushad Ahmed Khan’s request and hinted at appointing an amicus curiae.

“Once a PIL is filed and heard, it cannot be allowed to be withdrawn. Let people know this that once a PIL is filed and entertained, you cannot withdraw it,” the bench stated and put the matter for consideration on Monday.

Khan is president of Indian Young Lawyers' Association (IYLA) which has filed the PIL on the Sabarimala issue. The question of the right of women would be decided Constitutionally and the plea cannot be withdrawn like this, the court added.

The apex court had on January 11 questioned the Sabarimala temple authorities as to why women are barred from entering the shrine in violation of their Constitutional rights.

Heading to Karavali Utsava? Check traffic changes and parking rules in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
