Bengaluru, Dec 10: A 24-year-old drunk man, who falsely claimed himself to be a relative of Karnataka Health Minister U?T?Khader, caused a ruckus and misbehaved with the traffic police who were checking motorists for drink-driving near Bell Hotel junction near the City Railway station in the early hours of Wednesday.

Anees, who works at a hotel near the railway station, was stopped by sub-inspector Srinivas and his team attached to the Chickpet traffic police station.

They made him take the breathalyser test and found that he was drunk. But Anees was quick to claim kinship with the minister and that he worked for the railways. He is said to have threatened the policemen with dire consequence if they booked him and started causing a ruckus.

The police nonetheless booked him for drink-driving, seized his vehicle and asked him to pay the fine in court. Later in the day, the police contacted Khader’s office which denied that the minister had any relative named Anees.

However, when Kannada news channels began to telecast false news claiming that Mr Khader’s kin was arrested for drunk and drive, the minister reportedly contacted police and made it clear that the accused is a liar and he is not his relative.

A few Kannada news channels claimed that the accused is Mr Khader’s sister’s son. The minister clarified that his sister has only one son, who is studying in Mangaluru.

Mr Khader has urged to the police to take stringent action against those who misuse his name. He also requested the mass media not to produce false reports to defame someone.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
