Mangaluru: Teacher absconding after sexually harassing Class 9 girl

Mangaluru, Mar 3: A 43-year-old Kannada teacher is on the run after a case was registered against him for sexually harassing a girl student and allegedly threatening to kill the headmistress for suspending him.

The accused, Mohan Rai D, hails from Uppala in Kasaragod district, and was employed at a private school in Bajal Pakkaladka in Mangaluru.

It is said that the accused used to sending obscene messages to a Class 9 girl through Facebook and WhatsApp. Besides, he is said to have lured her to accompany him ice-cream parlours, movie-halls and malls. He also allegedly sexually harassed her many a times.

The issue came to light only after one of the friends of the girl narrated the story to the headmistress. When the headmistress discussed the issue with girl students, many of them reportedly complained against the sadistic behaviour of Mohan Rai.

Later the headmistress brought the issue to the notice of the school governing council, which decided to suspend the teacher from service.

Enraged over the development Mohan Rai barged into the chamber of headmistress and threatened to murder her, sources said.

Based on the girl's complaint a case has been registered at Mangaluru Rural Police Station against Mohan Rai under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Another case has been registered against him for issuing murder threat.

Meanwhile, a special team is looking for the accused, who went absconding after the two complaints were registered against him.

Parents must encourage their children (especially girls) to speak up on anything and everything. Such wolves in the society continue to prey on the innocents as long as their victims do not speak up. Such wolves hiding in sheep's clothing should not be given anything less than a death penalty.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
