Bangalore, Oct 20: In a shocking incident, two teenage girls died after consuming pesticide on Saturday night at Pulikeshinagar in Bangalore under mysterious circumstances.

Police identified the dead friends as Shazia Begum (18), a resident of Kushalnagar, K.G. Halli, and Rakhia Begum (18), a resident of D.J. Halli. They were pursuing first-year Bachelors in Business Management (BBM) at a private college in Nagavara.

The duo were found lying unconscious on Masjid Road, Pulikeshinagar and were rushed to hospital. Shazia Begum was declared brought dead, while Rakhia Begum died later in the night.

Pulikeshi Nagar police, who registered a case of unnatural death, said they found a bottle of pesticide at the spot where the two girls lay unconscious. Doctors also confirmed a case of poisoning, leading to the inference that the girls killed themselves, they added. Initial indicators are that the girls consumed pesticide.

The girls were first-year BBM students at a private college in Nagawara. They did not leave behind any suicide note, police said.

Citing preliminary investigations, a senior police official said the two girls were suspected to have been in love with two boys, who had cheated on them. Police suspect this led them to take the extreme step. A probe is on, the officer added.

Their parents are in a state of shock and not in a position to react, and we are yet to take their statements, police added.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
