Reddy is not my Guru; Yeddy can become Karnataka BJP chief: Sriramulu

March 7, 2016

Kalaburagi, Mar 7: The former Minister and BJP MP B. Sriramulu has said that the former Minister G. Janardhan Reddy was not his political mentor or guru as was being projected. He said that Mr. Reddy was a very good friend of him.

sri
Replying to questions at a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Sriramulu said that he was senior to Mr. Reddy and was a four-time MLA and now, an MP.

To another question, Mr. Sriramulu said that nobody was opposed to the nomination of the former Chief Minister and MP B.S. Yeddyurappa as president of the State unit of the party. Mr. Sriramulu said that Mr. Yeddyurappa was an unquestionable leader of the party and adored by everybody.

“We will abide by the decision of the central party leadership as far as appointment of the president of the State unit of the party is concerned,” he said.

To yet another question, Mr. Sriramulu condemned the police brutalities in Bengaluru on the protesting farmers of Kolar and Chickballapur demanding permanent irrigation facilities.

He criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for issuing a misleading statement that no farmer was injured in the police lathi-charge.

On the warrant issued by a court in Ballari against him in a cheque bounce case for non-appearance in court when the case came up for hearing, Mr. Sriramulu said that he could not attend the case due to his participation in the Lok Sabha proceedings and the absence was not intentional. “I would present myself before court soon,” he added.

He declined to say anything on the cheque bounce case stating that it was sub judice and expressed confidence in the judiciary stating that it would do justice to him.

Mr. Sriramulu told another questioner that the BJP Zilla Panchayat members of Ballari had been sent to resorts to avoid political poaching by the Congress before the elections to the post of panchayat president.

“Our fears about political poaching are genuine and the Congress, despite losing badly in the zilla panchayat elections, was doing everything to break the BJP in the zilla panchayat to capture power through the backdoor,” he said.

Wearing expensive watch does not make a Chief Minister disqualified from his post but if he is corrupt, yes, it does make him to step down. As long as he does not indulge himself in corruption, he does not need to bother about it...I was surprised to see that CM handed it to states property...he should not have done it, instead, he should have worn it forever....what a cheep politics by Kumar swami and BJP chelas....

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
