Asaduddin Owaisi's Majlis sets up base in Kalaburagi, eyes minority votes

March 13, 2016

Kalaburgi, March 13: With the formal setting up of its office in Kalaburagi on Saturday, Hyderabad-based political party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen is set to field its candidates in future elections from the city by wooing the minority electorate.

The party's firebrand leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, seems to be keen on establishing a base outside Hyderabad, particularly in the Muslim-dominated areas of Karnataka like Kalaburagi. Owaisi told reporters after inaugurating the party office at the Zeenith Tower, Muslim Chowk, that Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, which did not allow him to hold public meetings, were scared of him. “If I speak against the Constitution of India, the state has every right to arrest me.

Let the general elections come in 2018 and they cannot restrict me as the elections will be held under the supervision of the Election Commission. We will then show our strength,'' Owaisi said.

He said efforts will be made to strengthen the Majlis in Kalaburagi by uniting Muslims, backwards and dalits. Refusing to comment on Muslim leaders of Kalaburagi, Owaisi made it clear that in all future elections, AIMIM candidates will contest.

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not showing commitment to the Constitution, the controversial MP alleged that Modi takes shelter under silence whenever controversial issues pertaining to Muslims, Constitution, nationalism and others crop up. He claimed that the Ayush department of the Union government has decided not to recruit Muslims as trainees. “Muslims and dalits are an integral part of India. Government decisions and actions should be in tune with the Constitutional spirit,'' Owaisi said. Advocate Wahaj Baba and former zilla panchayat member Gurushant Pattedar were present.

A?large number of people had gathered braving the scorching heat while they had waited on the roads and rooftops to have a glimpse of Owaisi. When he arrived two hours behind schedule around 2 pm, they cheered. Owaisi later addressed a gathering at KNZ Function Hall.

Dear Owaisi Sb, Please concentrate on Telangana and Hyderabad first. How many councilors in GHMC ? Don't try to split muslim votes. We already have parties like WPI,PFI for minorities, no need more. You speak well but action is nil. Good example. GHMC and Telangana.

BJP's masterplan to unite muslims by targeting on Islam. United muslims will keep faith on Owaisi and will vote for him.

Indirectly it will help BJP to get majority in all over India.

I always believed that Owaisi is hired by BJP to divide muslims vote for BJP's gain.

Recently we have noticed some BJP MLA s targeting on Islam. Reason behind this to unite muslims and vote for our men.
Obviously people will go for Owaisi.
RSS planning to bring brown trousers because Indian police use the same uniform. During the election time it will be easier for RSS to enter vote booth on the base policemen and can play their game.

A sincere suggestion to Owaisi, is concentrate on Andhra and Telangana, wasting his sources and time in dividing the votes within the Muslim community that will benefit Suffrons/BJP.

It is very much surprising, he foots in various parts of India and the question is from where he is funded for this party.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.
