RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat promises to visit Lucknow masjid

March 30, 2016

Lucknow, Mar 30: Temple visits are routine for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, but he will soon visit a masjid. During a meeting with Shaista Amber, chairperson of All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMPWLB), Bhagwat promised he will visit the new masjid in Lucknow built by the Board's chief.

Bhagwat
The assurance came during a meeting between the board's chairperson Amber and Bhagwat on the sidelines of a function at Madho Ashram in Mohanlalganj (Lucknow) on Tuesday. "I invited him to visit the Amber Masjid I got constructed near Madhav Ashram," Amber said, adding that Bhagwat accepted the invitation. "He promised to visit the masjid on his next visit to the state capital," she said.

AIMPWLB chairperson feels Bhagwat's visit to a Muslim place of worship will put to rest the allegation that RSS talks only of Hindutva and is against Muslims. "In his address at the event, Bhagwat talked about nation building and other social issues. There was nothing in his speech that a Muslim would find objectionable," she said. "I am sure he will keep his promise the next time he visits Lucknow," Shaista said, adding, "His visit will surely help to do away the misgivings people, particularly Muslims, have about the RSS," she said.

Talking about her association with local functionaries of the RSS, Amber said she has been involved with Madhav Ashram and participated in various events held at the venue for almost two decades. "In 1990s, when top BJP leaders including former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani laid the foundation stone of Madho Ashram, local RSS leaders invited me to the event," she said, adding that she has attended several functions since then on the Ashram campus.

She runs Amber Dharamshala where people are provided free food and shelter. "My dharamshala is open to people from all walks of life. I have invited Bhagwat to visit the dharamshala too and see work we have done."

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
