Kasaragod, Apr 5: Kasaragod has earned a distinct name in the electoral scenario in Kerala, as the Assembly segment has been witnessing one-to-one fight between the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) with the former winning the last nine elections in a row since 1977.

The CPI (M) and the Congress have a relatively insignificant hold in the municipal limits and seven panchayats falling under the segment.

The Left party opted to support the Indian National League (INL) in recent past.

The IUML this time has fielded sitting MLA N.A. Nellikkunnu who had defeated BJP's Jayalakshmi N. Bhat with a convincing 9,738 votes margin in the 2011 polls.

Mr. Nellikkunnu, enjoying seemingly good rapport in the social and political strata, has already begun the campaign, as his party nominated him shortly after the election process began in the State.

The choice of Hindu Aikya Vedi's State vice-president Raveesha Thantri, 49, a native of Kundar, as BJP nominee has surprised local party leaderships.

The BJP leaders reportedly questioned the logic behind fielding Thantri, an unknown face among the workers and party leaders, when in the past the BJP had fielded known faces in the segment.

Raveesha is the thantri (chief priest) for 63 temples in Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod, and is a patron of district temple protection committee. The RSS leadership hope that he would have good stead in the elections.

After having initial confusion over the party nominee, the INL has zeroed in on A.A. Ameen, 60, a native of Ochira and the party's central secretariat member and Kollam district president.

The candidature of Ameen, the founding treasurer of the INL, was declared on Saturday.

The UDF is ruling in Kasargod municipality, Chengala, Kumbadaje, and Mogral Puttur panchayats; the BJP in Madhur, Bellur, and Karaduka panchayats.

This fighting about \"My God greater than yours .. \" it happens between the Gods you believe. Gods take revenge over other Gods, read your books..! First solve the issue between these Mythical Gods in your books and then we can think of framing a law with it."

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
