Mangaluru: 25-year-old Saba Khan dies as tipper hits scooter

Mangaluru, Apr 18: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, a young woman died on spot after a speeding tipper lorry rammed into her two-wheeler at Kenjar Cross near Airport on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Sabah Khan (25), a resident of Battrakere, Permude. She was employed at City Centre Mall.

The tragedy took place when she was on her way to her workplace from her home. While negotiating a curve, a speeding tipper lorry moving in the same direction rammed into her.

The woman, who fell off the scooter and run over by the tipper, breathed her last within a second. The tipper driver fled from the spot leaving behind his vehicle.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Government Wenlock Hospital in the city for post-mortem.

It is learnt that when Sabah was riding towards Mangaluru city, a tipper moving in the same direction hit her Activa from behind, killing her on the spot.

A case has been registered at the jurisdictional traffic police station.

It is learnt that Saba Khan had sustained severe injuries when her scooter met with an accident a few months ago. After several days of treatment at hospital, she had resumed the work.

As long you are not changing present Motor Act rules specially in Accident cases these types of incident will increase. Just go with this case, the driver will be release with out any case against him with in few days! Insurance companies plus law makers will try to get maximum benefit from this case too!! This driver again will do the same mistake and come out clean! those dies in accident their families only suffering thats all.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
