Lab and Library block inaugurated at Melkar Women's College

Mangaluru, May 2: Melkar Women's College set right with another milestone of success: The forest, environment and ecology minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the new block of laboratory and library section, well equipped and furnished with all the study materials to the students.

With the inaugural address Mr Rai appraised the successive path of the college. B Kunchi Ahmad, the chairman of HH Groups, who was the chief guest, whole heartedly praised the college.

PC Hashir, Sharief Bajepa, BS Basheer, S Abbas Haji, Hameed Master, all as a guest witnessed the programme. Mr Hashir, in his guest address, said that credit of these seven years journey of college goes to the will and support of S M Rasheed Haji, the chairman.

In the presidential address, Mr SM Rasheed said that in the following year MEET Melkar Women's College would be expanding its vision by opening new DAWA College with namaz hall. He also appreciated the dedicated service of lecturers to the college.

Inaugural ceremony was followed by the farewell day for second outgoing batch of graduates. Student presented their sweet memories and junior students organised the programme with lunch to senior students.

Nashath Neeza of II B.Com was the master of ceremony and student council leader Nouseena of III BA welcomed the gathering and guests. Hafeefa of II B.Com proposed the vote of thanks.

Our women's are learning...what are our men's doing...a sorry state of affair..Feel like we need men's college now...Most of the men from our community are not at par with the women in education..we have drifted back...and Congratulations to ladies you have shown it ...Allah bless you ...

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
