The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. when a female BPO employee visited Forum Fiza Mall, Pandeshwar, along with her former colleague, belonging to another community.

However, the timely intervention of police, ward-off a major attack by the moral police owing allegiance to Sangh Parivar.

It is learnt that the BPO employee, a Hindu woman, hailing from Kundapur, took her former colleague, a Muslim youth from Chikkamagaluru, to the mall in the evening.

The woman, who recent got engaged, had also informed her fiancé that she would go for shopping along with her Muslim friend.

Meanwhile, a group of men surrounded the duo at the mall and assaulted the youth, before handing them over to the jurisdictional Pandeswhar police. However, the duo did not lodge any complaint against the assailants, sources said.
