Mangaluru, Aug 15: Media photographers and videographers boycotted the district level 70th Independence Day celebrations at Nehru Maidan in the city on Monday after they were asked not to enter the area where march-past was supposed to be held.
Unlike in the past, this year elaborate security arrangements were made at the historic Maidan. There were three entrances to the programme venue. More police personnel were posted to frisk people and also keep a watch on those entering the venue.
The entrance from the main gate opposite the office of the Police Commissioner was restricted to VVIPs. People could enter the venue either from the gate behind the football ground or from the opening created opposite the Public Works Department office.
A few senior journalists, who expected special treatment at the programme venue, lost patience when a police officer asked the photographers and videographers not to cross a specific line.
Enraged over the indifference of authorities towards media persons, most of the videographers and photographers walked out of the venue soon after the flag-hoisting ceremony.
Later, district-in charge minister B Ramanath Rai, who led the I-Day celebrations, met the agitating media persons and tried to convince them that there were certain protocols to be followed.
He also assured the media persons that he would discuss the issue with the deputy Commissioner and police officers to prevent the recurrence of such confusions in future.

Now a days these photographers , reporters and their assistance are now in thousands numbers.
