Owaisi asks Modi govt to completely ban gau rakshaks'

September 29, 2016

Hyderabad, Sep 29: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) presidentAsaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday said that a complete ban on gau rakshaks would show that the Modi government is "genuinely" concerned about the empowerment of the minorities.

Asaduddin
The Hyderabad parliamentarian was responding to a question posed by media persons at the party headquarters in Darussalaam on the Centre's decision to introduce progress panchayats (PP), an outreach programme targeted at the minorities.

"The place from where they are going to launch it (PP), in Haryana, two Muslim girls were raped and two Muslim men were murdered. And they were killed there because they said that they eat meat. In the name of checking meat in biryani, many Muslim were harassed," he said. He challenged the government to raid five star hotels in Gurgaon.

Owaisi said that the Modi government is doing minorities no favour by empowering them as it is a "Constitutional duty". "The High Court told the Maharashtra government to give five percent reservations to Muslims. You (BJP government) don't do that. This, when Jats in Haryana are given reservations. In Rajasthan, it is given in the name of economic backward class. And in Gujarat, it is given to Patels," he said. Hurtful statements from the BJP leaders should also be stopped.

The panchayats, Owaisi said, should begin from Kashmir where engagement with locals is required. "The Centre does not have its priorities right. Modi speaks of empowerment of minorities, then are you against the minority character ofAligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia?" he questioned.

He said that government should make pre matric, post matric and merit-cum-means scholarships demand driven. "Whoever applies should be awarded the scholarship. What needs to be done is not being done. The need to to do work which is constructive," Owaisi said.

Mangaluru, Dec 16: The Mangaluru City police have significantly escalated their campaign against drug trafficking, arresting 25 individuals and booking 12 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between November 30 and December 13. The crackdown resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including 685.6 grams of MDMA and 1.5 kg of ganja.

The success of this recent drive has been significantly boosted by the city’s innovative, QR code-based anonymous reporting system.

"The anonymous reporting system has received an encouraging response. Several recent arrests were made based on inputs received through this system, helping police tighten the noose around drug peddlers," said the City Police Commissioner.

The latest arrests contribute to a robust year-to-date record, underscoring the police's relentless commitment to combating the drug menace.

Up to December 14 this year, the police have registered a total of 107 cases of drug peddling, leading to the arrest of 219 peddlers. Furthermore, they have booked 562 cases of drug consumption, resulting in the arrest of 671 individuals.

The scale of the seizure for the year reflects the magnitude of the problem being tackled: police have seized 320.6 kg of ganja worth ₹88.7 lakh and 1.4 kg of MDMA valued at ₹1.2 crore. Other significant seizures include hydro-weed ganja worth ₹94.7 lakh and cocaine worth ₹1.9 lakh, among others.

The Commissioner emphasized a policy of rigorous enforcement: "We ensure that peddlers are caught red-handed so that they cannot later dispute the case or claim innocence."

To counter the rising trend of substance abuse among youth, the Mangaluru City police have rolled out uniform guidelines for random drug testing across educational institutions.

As part of the drive, tests were conducted in approximately 100 institutions, screening an estimated 5,500 to 6,000 students in the first phase. 20 students tested positive for drug consumption during the initial screening.

Students who tested positive have been provided counselling and are scheduled for re-testing in the second quarter. The testing will also be expanded to students not covered in the first phase. In a move to ensure strict implementation, police personnel were deployed in mufti in some institutions. Reiterating a zero-tolerance stance, the Commissioner confirmed that random testing will continue, and colleges have also been instructed to conduct drug tests at the time of admission to deter substance abuse from an early stage.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
