Brave college girl fights off three armed muggers, rescues friend

Bengaluru, Oct 12: A gutsy girls fought off a gang of three armed robbers and saved her friend in Rajarajeshwari Nagar recently. While nobody was seriously injured, the muggers managed to escape when the girls raised an alarm. The police have registered a case and launched a hunt.

Around 7 pm on, the two engineering students were walking out of their hostel when they were attacked. According to Prajna, 19, (name changed) , she and her friend were walking up to a stationery shop near their hostel when three men passed us by in a Black Honda Dio.

She said: “They went ahead, took a look at us and made a U-turn and reached us. One of them got down and came up to me and said something. I had my earphones on. I took them off and asked him to repeat. He yelled at me to hand over my valuables, including mobile and cash, and threatened to kill me with a knife."

Prajna said she told him to take away whatever he wanted but not to harm them. But her friend Fathima, 20, (name changed) was angered. She grabbed the man by his collar while holding away the knife. "He tried to assault her and I started screaming loudly. Soon his associate joined us and caught hold of me," recalled Prajna.

The man Fathima was wrestling with managed to shed his T-shirt (she was holding him by the collar) and ran towards the scooter. When Fathima turned to help Prajna, the man holding her also fled.

Fathima ran behind the muggers to kick the bike down so that people could help them catch the criminals. But they kicked her down and escaped, said Prajna. The girls didn't have time to note the registration number.

Turned out, the robbers had escaped after noticing that a few passersby were coming to help the duo. The girls went to the police station and filed a complaint. The police visited the spot and recovered a knife.

Deputy commissioner of police (west) MN Anucheth appreciated the girls who not only fought the muggers but also chased and tried to catch them. “We will catch the muggers at the earliest," he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
