Udupi, Oct 23: In spite of warning from the Udupi district administration, Kanaka Nade, a controversial campaign conceived by the Yuva Brigade was held uninterrupted at the Sri Krishna temple here on Sunday amidst allegations of violating the Deputy Commissioner's orders.

After the district administration and the district police, the organisers decided to hold the controversial event in a new manner, claiming it to be a peace march.

The activists started from Kanaka Gopura and cleaned the Mutt, the temple pond Madhwa Sarovar, the Rajangana, the parking area and the toilets. They also painted the walls of the parking area.

The day-long campaign was inaugurated by Pejawar seer by garlanding the statues and felicitating five civic workers who clean the Car Street and temple premises daily. A procession was taken out around the Car Street before commencing the cleaning works.

Pejawar mutt seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami criticised the confusions pertaining to Kanaka Nade. He said he was hurt by the district administration's decision to ban the Car street from the list of areas for cleaning. There is need for internal and external cleaning – humans should also cleanse the soul and mindset. People should surrender themselves to Dharma and the country. The purpose behind Udupi Chalo was reasonable. The demand for land right is fine, but food right should not be aimed at consuming beef. The recently held Udupi Chalo is an attack on Hinduism, he added.

Yuva Brigade head Chakravarthi Sulibele said that the areas marked as Mutt property were considered for cleaning. Kanaka Nade has nothing to do with Udupi Chalo, and is not anti-Dalit. He compared Kanaka Nade to surgical attack against the Leftist ideologies.

The activists also had mass feedingSaha Pankthi Bhojana' and the seers gave away Prasadam to all. The cleaning work went up to noon and later the members assembled for bhajans and Satsanga before the concluding ceremony.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru North police have apprehended a minor in connection with alleged voyeurism incident reported in a private medical college in Mangaluru.

DCP (Law and order) Sidharth Goyal said that the minor was produced before JJ Board as per due procedure. The incident came to light when a mobile phone was found in women's washroom in the college.

The mobile-phone was discovered as it was ringing even when no one was in the toilet by the security guard of the college.

Investigations revealed that the mobile phone had been strategically placed in the restroom. As a result, a case has been registered under north police station.

Further scrutiny into the matter uncovered the identity of the accused, a minor male aged 17, who had gained access to the college premises under the guise of being a patient. Following his apprehension, the accused was presented before the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board in adherence to legal protocols.

The phone has been seized and a case has been booked under IPC section 354 (C), said the DCP.

Naturals Ice Cream founder Raghunandan Kamath passed away following a brief illness. Born to a mango vendor in a village in Mangaluru, Kamath went on to establish Naturals, an ice cream parlour estimated to be worth Rs 400 crore today.

"Our thoughts on the sad demise of our patron and founder of Naturals Ice Cream, Late Raghunandan Kamath. Indeed a very sad and unfortunate day for us," the company said.

Mr Kamath grew up helping his father in selling mangoes in a village Karnataka's Mangaluru. This was when he learned the art of picking the ripe fruit, plucking it, sorting it, and preserving it.

As the legend goes, a young 14-year-old Kamath boarded a train from Mangaluru and came to Mumbai (then Bombay).

After working at his brother’s restaurant, Kamath had an idea — if ice creams have fruit flavours, why can’t they have real fruits. He decided to fill this void in the market. But unsure of whether customers would come, he began his business with serving pav-bhaji as the main dish and the ice cream as an add on.

His first ice cream parlour was launched in 1984 in Juhu, with the initial menu featuring around 12 flavours, each being a testament to the knowledge he acquired during the time he assisted his father in Mangaluru.

The demand kept growing and he opened five more outlets in 1994. Currently, it has over 165 outlets across 15 cities.

His story was captured expansively in ‘Intelligent Fanatics of India’, a book co-authored by Mumbai-based journalist Pooja Bhula.

Inspired by his mother's techniques, Kamath also developed innovative machines to streamline production and ensure consistency, notes the company website.

Madikeri: A 15-year-old was bludgeoned to death and the accused fled with her severed head at Mutlu village in Somwarpet of Kodagu district on Thursday late night, hours after her SSLC examination result was declared.

The victim has been identified as US Meena, a 10th grade student of Surlabbi High School. She had passed the SSLC examination and her school attained 100% results.

However, she was brutally murdered by accused Prakash (32), a resident of the village. The police have launched a search operation to find the suspect, said Kodagu SP K Ramarajan

It is said that the minor girl's engagement with the suspect was thwarted by officials from Women and Child Development department on May 9, and later officials had even convinced her parents of not to marry the minor girl.

However, the suspect barged into her house in the night and allegedly kidnapped her. Later, he took her to an area near the periphery of the forest and murdered her after which he fled with her severed head.

Victim's mother too has suffered injuries and is admitted to a hospital for treatment. The reason for the murder will be known after the probing officials have inquired the victim's mother, said the SP.
