Mangaluru: Scooter rider dies after head-on collision with motorbike

Mangaluru, Oct 26: A man lost his life and another suffered critical injuries after the collision of two speeding two-wheelers at Panjinadka near Kinnigoli on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ilyas (42), a resident of Angaragudde village who was dealing with garments. Rakshith Shetty (30), a resident of Shimanthur is battling for life at a hospital in Mangaluru.

The incident occurred when Ilyas was returning to Angaragudde after visiting a relative's home on his scooter. Rakshith was on his way to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru for work.

Their two-wheelers collided in front of Shimanthur School and both riders were thrown onto the road.

Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted both to a hospital. However, Ilyas was declared brought dead while Rakshith is recuperating in ICU.

Ilyas, who is survived by his wife and three children, was the the only bread winner for his family. Family sources said that the Ilyas was busy in helping a relative whose wedding ceremony is scheduled for October 27.

A case has been registered at Mangaluru North traffic police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

•    Gandhinagar Government School (near Press Club) – Two-wheelers and cars
•    Ladyhill Church parking area – Two-wheelers and cars

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
