Mangaluru, Jan 30: Batting for maximum punishment for those who slaughter cows, hardline Hindutva leader and Rajya Sabha Member Subramanian Swamy has said that he will soon present a private bill in the Parliament in this connection.

Delivering the keynote address during the valedictory function of Gou Yatra Mahamangala, the culmination of 82-day long state-wide Gou Yatra at Kulur on Sunday, he said cow slaughter should be banned completely.

Swamy said that the Constitution of India should make mandatory amendments for Gau Rakshan. "Cows are the resources of our country, but sadly, it is being looted by some for meat. Those who steal our resources should be given death penalty," he demanded.

“Although there are provisions in the Constitution, no government has implemented them effectively. Even Mahatama Gandhi, Dr B R Ambedkar and Dr Rajendra Prasad had proposed ban on cow slaughter. But, it was not possible due to lack of political willpower. Cow slaughter is not necessary for any religion,” he claimed.

He urged the government to stop export of beef. Ban on cow slaughter, building of Ram Mandir and resurrection of culture are the needs of the nation today and everyone must stay committed to work towards these issues, he said.

Ramachandrapur mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharati said that cattle must also be able to have natural birth, natural life and natural death like people. He said he has plunged into the movement to seek life for cattle and there is no question of taking a back step even if it claims his life.

Cows are assets of the nation. Beef export, cross-breeding and use of chemical fertilisers should be banned to protect cows. Diary farming should be encouraged. The government should take steps to protect gomala lands. If people employed in slaughter houses are ready to leave their works and willing to lead a respectful life, he is ready to provide jobs for them.

Vishwa Santhosha Swami asked why the PETA is not raising its voice against cow slaughter. Around 1,300 seers from various states took part in the programme. Some BJP?leaders took part, no leader from Congress turned up.

If these Sadhus and Swamis are so concerned about cow slaughter, why are they not marching to various beef exporting facilities in Gujarat which are run by bjp leaders. Why are they fooling common people and trying to create disturbance in society. They are following double standard. Everyone knows that beef export is on top place in india and 99 percent exporters are Brahmins. They use cow for their own benefit. Swmay is just trying to fool us.

Cow slaughter in India is negligible comparing to that done in West and Australia, New Zealand etc.

If their are concerned on Religious basis, then why at least a small attempt is not done to preach the same in those countries who slaughter many times more than slaughtered in India.

Because unfortunately it is a blind belief in India because not matching this belief scientifically.

Think before talk.

If BJP cannot do this, then this is dual standard
Simply fooling public for making vote bank

Mangaluru: In a decisive move to tackle the city’s deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced a massive ₹1,200 crore action plan to overhaul its underground drainage (UGD) network.

The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV, aims to bridge "missing links" in the current system that have left residents grappling with overflowing sewage and environmental hazards.

The Breaking Point

The announcement follows a high-intensity phone-in session on Thursday, where the DC was flooded with grievances from frustrated citizens. Residents, including Savithri from Yekkur, described a harrowing reality: raw sewage from apartments leaking into stormwater drains, creating a "permanent stink" and turning residential zones into mosquito breeding grounds.

"We are facing immense difficulties due to the stench and the health risks. Local officials have remained silent until now," one resident reported during the session.

The Strategy: A Six-Year Vision

DC Darshan HV confirmed that the proposed plan is not a temporary patch but a comprehensive six-year roadmap designed to accommodate Mangaluru’s projected population growth. Key highlights of the plan include:

•    Infrastructure Expansion: Laying additional pipelines to connect older neighborhoods to the main grid.

•    STP Crackdown: Stricter enforcement of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) regulations. While new apartments are required to have functional STPs, many older buildings lack them entirely, and several newer units are reportedly non-functional.

•    Budgetary Push: The plan has already been discussed with the district in-charge minister and the Secretary of the Urban Development Department. It is slated for formal presentation in the upcoming state budget.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
