Kendriya Vidyalaya principal held for lewd talk with student

February 4, 2017

Bengaluru, Feb 4: The principal of a prominent school was arrested for making obscene gestures and using sexually-coloured language with a girl student. Kumar Thakur, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hebbal, allegedly harassed a 17-year-old Class XII girl late in December. She mustered the courage to complain to the police this week. Thakur was arrested on Tuesday by the Sadashivanagar police, and within a day, he was out on bail.

On December 26, 2016, Thakur sent word through the physics teacher and summoned the student to his chamber. He began by asking her about her mother's health, and sought to know why she had not been doing well in her exams. He then started explaining the process of intercourse, and what happens between a man and woman, she has said in her complaint.

The principal asked if she had a boyfriend, to which she replied, “no”. He advised her to find one, remarking, “and then you will score first-class marks”. Thakur's talk then veered to Sunny Leone, the porn star who switched careers to become a Bollywood actress. He described her success in glowing terms, the student has said. Sex talk is useful for relaxation, he purportedly said, assuring the girl of his “personal, social, and financial support.”

Thakur said the student should meet him frequently, and handed her a piece of chocolate. At 8.10 pm, he let her go, according to the complaint. The corridor had no lights and she left with her brother, who had been waiting outside. The next day, she spoke about the incident to her friends, the complaint says. On January 25, the child helpline 1098 received a call about how girl students at Kendriya Vidyalaya were being harassed by their principal.

The police formed a team, including women officers and a POCSO coordinator, and went to the school. The team reported that the principal was facing general allegations. The experts then counselled the students, saying they would have to specify an incident to register a complaint. A student then came up with a detailed complaint against Thakur. “We detained the accused and conducted a detailed inquiry. There was no physical sexual act, but inappropriate words and gestures were used when he was alone with victim in his cabin,” said Praveen Sood, city police commissioner. Principal Kumar Thakur was arrested on Tuesday, but was out on bail on Wednesday.

“We were surprised to learn he came out so soon in a POCSO case,” said Chandragupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division. POCSO?is short for the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act, a law with stringent provisions.

Indian law is so weak that any one can commit crime and come out by the help of money. Law is on sale in india.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
