Shivamogga, Feb 7: The anti-hijab agitation launched a few days ago by the Sangh Parivar backed students at the Sahyadri Science College in Shivamogga has now spread to the other colleges of the city.
A group of students of a government first grade college at Bapuji Nagar in the city reportedly attacked a saffron shawl clad student after he allegedly insulted burqa clad Muslim girls.
It is learnt that Sharath, a first-year BBM student, entered college around 9 a.m. wearing saffron shawl in protest against burqa. It is alleged that he had insulted a girl wearing burqa two days ago.
A few Muslim students of second year BBM questioned him why did he insult the Muslim girl and also asked him to remove the saffron shawl.
This led to a clash between them and in the melee Sharath suffered minor injuries. Noticing this, a staffer informed police, who rushed to the college and brought the situation under control.
Six students - Syed Ahmed, Faizullah Baig, Irshad, Sharath, Satish and Vinay - have been arrested in connection with the incident.
On the other hand, a few Muslim girls of Sahyadri Science College have accused the ABVP activists of pulling their burqa and misbehaving with them. They alleged that no action has been taken against the ABVP activists for misbehaving with the burqa clad girls.
Meanwhile, Shivamogga police, on Sunday, registered suo motu cases against two youths for posting provocative messages and videos on WhatsApp pertaining to the controversy.
