Barelvi-Thabligh clash: After youth’s murder cop suspended for negligence

Mandya, Feb 12: The Superintendent of Police C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy has suspended a head constable at Pandavapura police station for dereliction of duty during a clash between Tabligh and Barelvi groups which led to a murder.

Mahadevaiah was suspended after the father of the slain man, Luqman, alleged that police “neglected” the incident and did not register a case on the basis of his complaint. Luqman was fatally stabbed by a group of four men on Friday following a clash over “religious differences”.

His funeral took place on Saturday. A large number of policemen were deployed in Pandavapura to avert any untoward incident.

According to the victim’s father, the suspects were pestering Luqman, who followed the Barelvi school of thought, to join Tablighi Jamaat. They decided to kill him when he didn’t accede.

The murder sparked tension in the town and police were deployed in Muslim neighbourhoods.

As the news began to spread, a few Muslim youths assaulted Asif, the head of Mahmoodiya Mosque, for allegedly instigating the suspects to induct Luqman into Tablighi Jamaat.

Luqman’s father said that a clash broke out between Suhel and Luqman on Thursday night and that he had approached the police to take action against Suhel but the police neglected the incident and did not register a case.

If the cop is found guilty, he should be dismissed instead of suspension........... Suspension will not teach any lesson to wrong doers ....

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

• Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

• Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

• Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
