Pratap (25), an activist of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV), died on the spot after attacked by the fellow activists of the same outfit. However, the main target of the assailants, Manikantha, a mason by profession, escaped with injuries and got admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to sources, an animosity started bubbling among the activists of the local unit of HJV after Manikanta reportedly informed the police about the theft committed by the fellow members of the outfit nearly two years ago. Recently, they also had reportedly fought over putting up a banner at Pumpwell. However, the police are still trying to find out the real motive behind the murder.

Local sources said that a group of HJV activists had tried to attack Manikanta on Saturday when the latter was doing masonry work at a house belonging to one Shaila in Maroli. However, the house owner intervened and chased the miscreants away.

At night, the Hindutva activists gathered in the birthday party of one of their associates identified as Achchu. After the party, the miscreants chased Manikanta. When his friend Pratap came to his rescue, the Hindutva activists attacked both of them with lethal weapons.

It is learnt that Pratp, who succumbed to injuries soon after the attack, had recently bagged a job in Mysuru and he had come home on a vacation. Unconfirmed sources said that police have managed to take six persons into custody including Vinesh, Mithun, Neeshu and Kaushi.

It is also said that all of them were involved in ganja peddling in the region. Meanwhile, a Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader has disowned the miscreants, saying that the outfit had already expelled them. A case has been registered in Kankanady Town Police station and investigations are on.

Recognize the HJV and their activities.. They are all fooling to disrupt the peaceful society whenever these organisations shout in the name of religion...

The society which lives with all religious people is not harmful rather the people who shout to create unrest in the name of religion are the real culprit of the peaceful living society.

Mangaluru, May 8: The health officials in Dakshina Kannada are concerned over the increase in dengue cases in the rural areas of the district. They've seen 108 cases since January, compared to 45 last year.

Dr. Naveen Chandra Kulal, who works on controlling diseases spread by insects, says humidity makes mosquitoes breed more.

People storing water in pots and drums during summer also make more mosquitoes, he added.

In Lingappayyakadu village near Mulky, a survey found people store lots of water because they don't have regular drinking water. Dr. Kulal says this water becomes a place for mosquitoes to breed if containers aren't closed properly.

Dengue cases are also rising in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and other districts, he said. Even though there haven't been big groups of dengue cases in Dakshina Kannada yet, the health department is trying hard to stop it from spreading. They're doing things like teaching people how to prevent dengue and getting rid of places where mosquitoes can breed.

So far this year, Dakshina Kannada district has only had 16 cases of malaria. Dr. Kulal says many of these cases were among workers who came from other states to work on building sites.

Dr. Thimmaiah HR, who works for the health department, says if people have a fever, they should go to the nearest clinic or hospital. He also says they should get tested if they have symptoms of dengue or malaria and be careful about the hot weather.

Madikeri: A 15-year-old was bludgeoned to death and the accused fled with her severed head at Mutlu village in Somwarpet of Kodagu district on Thursday late night, hours after her SSLC examination result was declared.

The victim has been identified as US Meena, a 10th grade student of Surlabbi High School. She had passed the SSLC examination and her school attained 100% results.

However, she was brutally murdered by accused Prakash (32), a resident of the village. The police have launched a search operation to find the suspect, said Kodagu SP K Ramarajan

It is said that the minor girl's engagement with the suspect was thwarted by officials from Women and Child Development department on May 9, and later officials had even convinced her parents of not to marry the minor girl.

However, the suspect barged into her house in the night and allegedly kidnapped her. Later, he took her to an area near the periphery of the forest and murdered her after which he fled with her severed head.

Victim's mother too has suffered injuries and is admitted to a hospital for treatment. The reason for the murder will be known after the probing officials have inquired the victim's mother, said the SP.

Mangaluru: Former MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday led a delegation to the Passport Seva Kendra in Mangaluru, urging the authorities to provide basic facilities for applicants. D’Souza addressed the media, highlighting the lack of essential amenities at the Mangaluru PSK. “I have requested the authorities to provide basic facilities for people visiting the PSK.

There are no chairs for the convenience of people who arrive at the PSK. They are forced to sit or stand by the side of the road or on footpaths. Additionally, there is no parking facility, no washrooms, and water has not been provided for the public,” the Congress leader stated.

An average of 500 to 600 people from various parts of the state visit the PSK. They have to wait in the scorching heat of the sun, D’Souza mentioned, urging the govt to address these issues promptly. “Officials have agreed to find solutions to the problems faced by the people. Meanwhile, we have also demanded that the PSK be relocated to a more convenient space. We have suggested that the PSK could be moved to the old DC’s office, where there is sufficient space. If our demands are not met, we will hold a protest,” D’Souza explained.

Ashraf Kinara, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada Waqf Advisory Committee, echoed the sentiment, stating that the authorities should either provide all basic facilities for passport applicants at the PSK or relocate the centre to a better location.
