Mangaluru: Feb 20: Leaders of saffron outfits in Dakshina Kannada have jointly given a call for a hartal in the coastal district on February 25, opposing Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s participation in ‘Karavali Sauharda’ rally or ‘coastal Karnataka harmony rally’ in Mangaluru organised by the CPI (M)’s district unit.

Briefing media persons here on Monday Vishwa Hindu Parishat Karnataka Prantha working president M B Puranik said that it is an irony that such a public programme on communal harmony is attended by a person who is from a political party whose hands are stained with blood of hundreds of innocent people in Kerala. Pinarayi Vijayan’s participation in the rally will disrupt peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada, which is considered as a sensitive district, he said.

“We are not against the CPM’s communal harmony rally. But we oppose the participation of Kerala chief minister in the rally,” he clarified.

He appealed to the shopkeepers, business establishments, private bus owners, schools and colleges voluntarily observe the hartal. Noting that Vijayan, a member of the CPM’s politburo, which is known for its violence-driven activities throughout India, especially in Kerala, Puranik said it is only farcical that the CPM is projecting itself as a champion of democracy whereas the facts and statistics on the violence it has undertaken prove otherwise. The constituency of Dharmadom, from where Vijayan was elected in 2016 election, has witnessed a large number of political murders. It is not right to invite a person whose constituency Dharmadom witnessed 13 political murders from 1969 till date, he criticized.

Puranik said even after being elected as the chief minister of Kerala, the situation there has not improved and the residents are in constant fear of being victims to the bloodshed unleased by the Communists. It is highly condemnable that Vijayan who has been ineffective as a chief minister in restoring law and order in his state is being invited as a guest to a rally to be held to promote unity and harmony. The intention of the programme will be only to provoke and mislead the people of Dakshina Kannada, he charged.

“We have already submitted a representation to deputy commissioner, commissioner of police and superintendent of police in this regard. Apart from Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike, other organisations have extended their support to the hartal,” he said.

VHP district president Jagadish Shenava said, “Vijayan's visit to Dakshina Kannada will lead to communal unrest. There are only Hindu-Muslim issues right now, but Vijayan's visit will also lead to Communist-RSS, Communist-BJP or even Communist-Hindutva group issues. There will be no bandh, but a peaceful hartal.”

Why the public has to depend on these out fit, who gave rights to disturb public life. Why karnataka bjp and their out fits creating disturbance to normal public life. If they are not interested to follow or listen CPM protest and boycott.
India is a democrat nation every one has same right to lead peaceful life.
This is not Dadri suggesting not to repeat your Gujrat, godra , muzaffarnagar attitude in South Kanara. No one will support and will to follow your criminal and communal mind set. Police Dept must warn and take strict action on these people. Who ever he might be a lawyer a politician or a ex service man send them behind bar till next state assembly election completion.
Then all will learn and understand the epicenter of public tension and group clash from it starts and your are igniting and who is behind.

Jai Hind ! Jai Karnataka!

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.

SHRIMP.jpg

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A rare bamboo shrimp has been rediscovered on mainland India more than 70 years after it was last reported, confirming for the first time the presence of Atyopsis spinipes in the country. The find was made by researchers from the Centre for Climate Change Studies at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, during surveys in Karnataka and Odisha.

The team — shrimp expert Dr S Prakash, PhD scholar K Kunjulakshmi, and Mangaluru-based researcher Maclean Antony Santos — combined field surveys, ecological assessments and DNA analysis to identify the elusive species. Their findings, published in Zootaxa, resolve decades of taxonomic confusion stemming from a 1951 report that misidentified the species as Atyopsis moluccensis without strong evidence.

The shrimp has now been confirmed at two locations: the Mulki–Pavanje estuary near Mangaluru and the Kuakhai River in Bhubaneswar. Historical specimens from the Andaman Islands, previously labelled as A. moluccensis, were also found to be misidentified and actually belong to A. spinipes.

The rediscovery began after an aquarium hobbyist in Odisha spotted a shrimp in 2022, prompting systematic surveys across Udupi, Karwar and Mangaluru. Four female specimens were collected in Mulki and one in Odisha, all genetically matching.

Researchers warn the species may exist in very small, vulnerable populations as freshwater habitats face increasing pressure from pollution, sand mining and infrastructure development. All verified specimens have been deposited with the Zoological Survey of India for future reference.
