According to police said three students from GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru, had come to Dakshina Kannada on holiday. They decided to stay in their Muslim classmate’s house at Gokul Nagar in Koila village. Their classmate’s father, Mohammed moulvi, is a cleric at a local mosque. All four girls were supposed to leave for Mysuru on Wednesday.

On learning the presence of three Hindu girls in a Muslim cleric’s house since last Sunday the right-wing activists tried surrounded the house and created ruckus. They also spread rumours on social media that three Hindu girls were confined by Muslims in the house. The cleric was away from home during incident.

As soon as the crowd started swelling, police were informed and they came to the spot at the earliest and stopped any untoward incident. The incident occurred around 7pm and crowd was disbursed immediately.

Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, who with other police officials rushed to spot, asked both community members to maintain peace and brought the situation under control. The police moved the three girls to a safe area then made arrangements to send the girls to Mysuru.

However, when groups from both communities started dispersing peacefully, a person in an inebriated condition started making remarks about other community leading to clashes. During the clash, a person was injured and is being treated a private hospital, Borase added.

Two cases - one from an injured person and another from cleric’s wife - have been registered at Kadaba Police Station. Police arrested five youths, identified as Siraj, Basheer, Arafath, Shareef and Thauseef during the clash. All of them were released on bail on Wednesday.

Why police arrested five youths from one community whereas did not take any action on sangh parivar terrorists who created the disturbance. Why police is soft to the trouble makers. Is police working for these goondas. Who are these goondas to ask about staying of girls in their class mate home. Why police did not arrest a single person from sangh parivar.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
