Abu Dhabi: The Bearys Welfare Forum-Abu Dhabi, recently organized a seminar on Global Economy and Repercussions on NRIs focusing mainly on Gulf Kannadigas at Grand Continental Hotel, here. Several prominent NRI personalities from various fields attended the seminar.

Saif Sultan of Hope Foundation was the resource person. Advocate Saaduddin Salih, Altaf Kateeb and Rafeq Ahmed of Sahibaan, Mohammed Hakeem of KCF, Abdul Salam Deralkatte, ICC, were guests of honor.

Abdulla Madumoole, General Secretary, BWF, delivered the introductory speech. Comparing the repercussions of the Great Depression of 1930 with that of the repercussions on the world economy after the Great Recession of 2008, he some rulers like Hitler had manipulated the hardship of people into their own advantage by exploiting the nationalistic emotions in the 30s and a similar atmosphere prevails world over now and people are vulnerable again to an emotional nationalistic blackmail.

Governments in UAE and world over spent on infrastructure projects to overcome the financial crisis exactly how America did in 30s. Though the economy of UAE has stabilized, unfortunately NRIs have been losing jobs. To discuss various issues relating to NRIs and make the people aware of investment opportunities and financial facilities available to them back in India, BWF organized this seminar “Global Economy and Repercussions on NRIs”.

Mohammed Ali Uchil, President, BWF, in his welcome address put a few words on ‘major challenges for NRIs to get adjusted in Indian conditions’. NRIs who have worked in high position in foreign countries may face problem in adjusting in India, he said adding that the big concern for NRIs is their kids who may find sudden change in their lifestyle for which they are not prepared.

“The kids of NIRs face problems in adjusting in Indian schools. They may face problem in interaction with their pear group who may like to converse in the local language while they prefer talking in English. NRI kids have to struggle adjusting with Indian lifestyle. There are vast difference in values and habits of NRI kids and Indian children. It is observed that NRIs who are thinking of returning back must fully understand the living conditions of India before they take such a step. There are various issues that they have to be tackled while living in India and they must be aware of them.  The main hurdles may include cultural, logistical and economic etc. Rebuilding healthy relationship with their relatives, friends and others will also be a challenge. They have to follow all customs and traditions and participate in cultural and religious festivals. NRIs placed at high position in companies abroad are accustomed to a certain lifestyle. Their lifestyle in foreign countries is completely different and they may find living conditions in India a big problem. They may have to face problems like hygiene, and other such life style related issues,” he said.

He thanked BWF-executive committee members for their hard work, dedication and effort to organize the function and bring in to its complete success and spirit. “It’s an incredible achievement for BWF, which managed to accomplish so many tasks to its utmost goal set, and God willing all of its project will be a complete success.”

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to extend all possible help to the victims of JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna's alleged sexual abuse.

In a letter to Siddaramaiah, Gandhi condemned the actions of Revanna, an MP from Hassan in Karnataka, and accused him of enjoying immunity with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a veiled attack on Modi, the Congress leader said he has never come across a senior public representative who has constantly chosen silence in the face of untold violence against women.

"I request you to kindly extend all possible support to the victims," Gandhi said in his letter to the Karnataka chief minister.

"They deserve our compassion and solidarity as they fight their battle for justice. We have a collective duty to ensure that all parties responsible for these heinous crimes are brought to book," he added.

Describing the incidents as "horrific sexual violence" unleashed by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Gandhi alleged that Revanna sexually assaulted and filmed hundreds of women over several years.

"Many who looked up to him as a brother and son were brutalised in the most violent manner and robbed of their dignity. The rape of our mothers and sisters warrants the strictest possible punishment."

"I am deeply shocked to learn that as far back as December 2023, our Home Minister Shri Amit Shah was informed by Shri G Devaraje Gowda about Prajwal Revanna's antecedents, especially his history of sexual violence and the presence of videos filmed by the perpetrator," the former Congress chief said.

He said what is even more shocking is that despite these gruesome allegations being brought to the notice of the seniormost leadership of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre, Modi campaigned and canvassed for a "mass rapist".

"Furthermore, the Union government wilfully allowed him to flee India to derail any meaningful investigation. The deeply perverse nature of these crimes and the absolute immunity enjoyed by Prajwal Revanna with the blessings of the Prime Minister and Home Minister deserves the strongest condemnation," Gandhi said.

"In my two decades in public life, I have never come across a senior public representative who has constantly chosen silence in the face of untold violence against women. From our wrestlers in Haryana to our sisters in Manipur, Indian women are bearing the brunt of the Prime Minister's tacit support for such criminals," he alleged.

In this backdrop, Gandhi said the Congress has a moral duty to fight for justice for "our mothers and sisters".

"I understand that the Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the grave allegations, and a request has been made to the Prime Minister to cancel Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport and get him extradited to India at the earliest," he said.

H D Revanna, the Janata Dal (Secular) MLA from Holenarasipura in Karnataka's Hassan district, is the son of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and elder brother of former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy. He is facing allegations of sexually abusing women.

Bengaluru, May 6: Arrested JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna, the son of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, on Sunday said that there is no evidence against him in the sex video scandal kidnapping case and that it was a "conspiracy" against him.

Talking to the media, while being taken for a medical test before being produced in front of a court here, Revanna stated that a kidnapping case had been lodged against him though he does not have 'one black mark' against him in his entire career of 40 years.

"Without evidence, I have been targeted... All allegations against me are false. My arrest has been made out of ill intention," he claimed.

"The case was lodged on April 28, then, they did not have any evidence. Later, the fake evidence was created on May 2 and I was fixed," he alleged.

Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara stated on Sunday that a Blue Corner notice has already been issued against Revanna's son and MP Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the sex video scandal, as he is believed to be abroad.

"The Interpol will communicate to all nations and he will be located. Once he is located, the SIT will take a call on how he should be secured and brought back to India," he added.

Revanna was arrested on Saturday on charges of kidnapping one of the victims of the sex video scandal.

Parameshwara further maintained that the arrest of Revanna has saddened JD-S leaders and if action was not taken, the SIT would be blamed too.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge refused to comment on the alleged sex video scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.

About Revanna's arrest, he said that the SIT would initiate action as per the law. "Those indulging in such acts must be taught a lesson and justice should be given to the families of victims. No one can escape the law. No one should use this case politically," he stated.

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.
