Jodhpur, Jun 10: In resemblance of an animal sacrifice, a 26-year-old man slit throat of his four-year-old daughter at their residence in Rajasthan, and then claimed that it was a sacrifice to please Allah during Ramadan.

Nawab Ali Qureshi, the accused, was said to be a doting father to 4-year-old Rizwana till he decided to take the little one’s life with his own hands. He was arrested by Jodhpur rural police on Saturday, a day after he committed the brutal crime.

The incident took place at Pipad in Jodhpur district. Qureshi confessed to his crime on Saturday after a day-long interrogation by the cops who suspected it to be a ritualistic killing.

“He thought Allah would be pleased with the ‘sacrifice’ during Ramadan, if it were someone who he holds most dear to his heart. And for him it was his daughter Rizwana," a police officer said. "I am a Namazi and I love my child more than my own life. I offered my daughter as a sacrifice,” the police quoted the accused as saying during an interrogation,

As per the police Qureshi brought his daughter back from her grandmother’s place on Thursday. He fed her with sweets and fruits from the market before taking her home. The family had slept together on the roof of their house on Thursday night. Late that night, while the rest of the family was fast asleep, he woke the victim and took her to the balcony, where he committed the crime.

As per the accused's statement to the police, he alleged that “Satan came over him” – making him allegedly slit his daughter’s throat.

The victim’s mother told the police that she was sleeping on the roof with her husband and two daughters the fatal night when she woke up at 2:30 a.m. to find the younger one missing. The mother then proceeded downstairs to look for daughter and found her lying in a pool of blood, throat slit.

The police reached the spot at 3 in the morning. The family members and the uncle’s kin were interrogated on Friday and Saturday by the cops.

A dog squad was called in to examine the entire house. The body of the girl was later handed over for post-mortem to the Medical Board in Pipad City Hospital.

Superintendent of Police (Jodhpur rural), Rajan Dushyant, said the girl's father was unsure of he was telling the cops.

The father later confessed to his crime. Police suspect that Qureshi made the sacrifice to get the prayers for a son answered. "The accused rinsed his clothes and set them to dry before returning to the roof to occupy his place besides his sleeping family members," a cop said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
