Karnataka BJP asks Centre to retain Aero India in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 14: Under attack from the ruling Congress-JD(S) combine, senior BJP leadersfrom Karnataka on Monday categorically said they won’t allow the Centre to shift Aero India, a biennial air show and aviation exhibition, from Bengaluru.

“It is true the Uttar Pradesh government is keen on shifting the show to Lucknow, but we and our MPs from the state will not allow this to happen. We will retain the show at any cost in Bengaluru,” BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa told reporters in Gadag on Monday.

Union parliamentary affairs and chemicals and fertilizers minister HN Ananth Kumar said he has urged defence minister Niramala Sitharaman, who is also a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, to retain the show in Bengaluru and added that he’s confident she’d respond positively.

Dismissing reports that UP CM Yogi Adityanath had lobbied hard to move the aero show from Bengaluru to Uttar Pradesh, Kumar said: “I don’t know why Adityanath’s name is being dragged into this. In a democratic system, any state can seek to host the show. Similarly, UP has applied for it. Ultimately, the defence minister will take a call and we are confident the decision will be in our favour.” Kumar, however, claimed the Uttar Pradesh government has written to the defence ministry stating that it does not have the required infrastructure to conduct an air show in Lucknow.

A delegation of MPs from Karnataka, led by Union minister for planning and statistics DV Sadananda Gowda, will soon meet Sitharaman to impress upon her the need to retain the show in Bengaluru, Kumar said. He said Bengaluru must be chosen to host the event because it is the capital for defence aviation in the country. “We have HAL, NAL, Isro and several other central government and private agencies, and the city also has the necessary infrastructure to host the show.

This is a serious dilemma, because both States are very very important for BJP. They both are the heart and nerve centers of what BJP is about. Karnataka is most valued & love of India. Maybe instead of Aero Expo, Government should have Defense Expo in U P. Aero Expo should be there in Bangalore.

It''s a boring show even when well known names participate, and even they have not been participating from some years now. Last time, I actually felt sorry for the hassled IAF personnel forced to organize and keep it running smoothly. Let it go to UP or wherever, and spare bangalore north the jams, traffic diversions and litter.

Has Bengaluru saved any cows, or supplied oxygen to hospitals where 1000 children die every month? Lucknow is the right candidate.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
